Dried bananas- yum!

I have a couple favorites in the world of dried fruits: apricot leather, plum leather and dried bananas. I haven't made the latter in quite some time. I finally got around to making a couple trays of them and they were eaten up in less than a day. Homemade dried bananas are not even in the same universe with the store bought ones!

You start out with bananas that are starting to get "gross".

Slice them up in approximately the same size slices,

12 hours later- finished! And yes, they are much more brown than the ones at the store but they taste better that way. :-)

I love all the things you can do with bananas!! We usually freexe them and put them in the food processor and make what the kids call banana ice cream. It might as well be but better!! There is no sugar!!

How do you make your banana ice cream? Do you add any milk or ice? I'd like to try it.

I dont add anything. I just cut them up and freeze them. I take them out and let them sit for a minute to soften just a bit and then blend them. It is super yummy. You can do it with frozen strawberries too. If its not sweet enough, I sometimes add agave nectar.

You know what's grosser than any gross thing you've ever put in your mouth? Dried bananas. Yuck! Seriously, you've always been the weird one, Sariah. This just proves it.

I usually dip them in pineapple juice to keep them from turning as brown. You could use any citrus fruit, fruit fresh, or ascorbic acid/crushed vitamin C tabs. My kids love them too!

Hey there Teancom! Your still alive?? I see boot camp has not stifled your spirit yet. *Ahem*, I beg to differ with your opinion of MY weirdness. I think the weirdness gene intensified as Mom and Dad had children.....

One other question for "its just me". Do you make it with bananas that are are older and softer or just any bananas?

You can also put frozen bananas and other frozen fruit (strawberries are delicious) through a Champion Juicer to make soft "ice cream" with a great texture. I also blend in a little raw honey or agave and a few drops of vanilla extract. Yum.

I don't even start eating bananas till they get to what you call "gross".

Many years ago you could get dried bananas that wer about 5 inches long and about a third of the width of a normal banana. They came in packs of about 4 deep and 8 wide. I would love to know how to make these.
