Our Hatch family reunion this year spotlighted the best Grandmother of all time- Grandma Clayton. If you read this blog with any sort of regularity, you probably have an inkling why I think that she is so wonderful. Mom had the idea of giving her a family tree tote because Grandma loves bags and is always doing family history. So I took this little project on and had a fun time designing it and sewing it. I wanted to share pictures of the end product. Claire, the cat, also wanted to see my creation.

The inside of the bag had a fun owl print,

and the back side had a pocket with the words, "I have a family tree, with branches by the dozens.." embroidered on it.
Some of the family leaves....

Presenting it to Grandma at the reunion. She's wearing her "star of the show" crown. :-)

OH that's lovely! I do want to sew more; maybe when garden time is done.
Do the different leaf fabrics mean anything? Most are the green, but I see some lighter patterns in there...
Great job!!
I got teared up reading this and looking at the pictures. What a blessing it is to have a Granddaughter like you. The bag is so great!!! I really think the cat is admiring it.
Hi Ella!,
I originally tried to think how to make different fabric patterns mean different relationships, but I finally decided that was too complicated. So I just did it for variety. :-)
Sariah the bag looks great! I wish I lived closer so I could learn how to sew like that.
Love the bag!!!
That's a damn fine bag. I just love the inside pockets and the long supple handles which encourage proper bag carrying posture. The fabric reminds me of Amy Butler
This is such a lovely idea! Your grandma looks so happy with it! Just beautiful! I'm terrified of sewing, so I'm EXTREMELY impressed by your talents! Way to go!
