And the award for "worst flavor in a smoothie" goes to green bell peppers! Flax is great to add to smoothies--but you do have to grind them to get more than just fiber from them, and the fatty acids oxidze after about 3 days, so don't grind too much at a time. Probably more info than you wanted, huh?HeatherShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05509099207672855168noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3742220058475811691.post-57634340037558418282009-01-12T20:55:00.000-07:002009-01-12T20:55:00.000-07:00Sariah, too funny! I can't say I've tried raisins, though! I did toss in a few carrots last night, as per your inspiration, and it wasn't too bad. I grind flax seeds in a coffee grinder, save it in a ziploc, and add a tablespoon or three to my smoothies. I usually also add in some flaxseed oil as well. Have you tried raw egg? I wouldn't with store-bought eggs, but I've read it's super-good for you, especially nice orange homegrown eggs. I admit, the few times I've done this have been ... hard... to manage. :)

Blessings!EllaJachttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17937838823211562533noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3742220058475811691.post-57836749636390785582009-01-12T13:48:00.000-07:002009-01-12T13:48:00.000-07:00I think I will try some spinach next time. A few days ago I put about 6 or 7 in and they weren't noticable. But this time I added hmmm...maybe 30. My old blender did a decent job with all vegetables except carrots. The leafy greens were fine. My sister in law made a spinach/fruit smoothie after reading something I wrote. It turned out REALLY GREEN and she was worried her kids would say "yuck"! So she immediately thought of the smart idea to call it a HULK smoothie. Ooooh...they liked that :-) Once your kids drink something green and realize they still like it, you've passed the hardest hurdle.sariahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04027291557643997827noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3742220058475811691.post-68488504520375730382009-01-12T09:45:00.000-07:002009-01-12T09:45:00.000-07:00We make a lot of smoothies in my house and I was e...We make a lot of smoothies in my house and I was encouraged when I read that you were putting in veggies in. Do you think you can do that in a reg blender?
I have never thought to add raisins...lol..um we like yogurt covered raisins..so we will try to keep up our bone strength that way.
I also put in whole flaxseeds in our smoothies. I usually put in whole frozen strawberries.
